Pedro Torres (Dressage)

 

Pedro Torres is celebrated the world over as a world champion working equitation specialist who trains using classical dressage principles melded with a respectful and kind relationship with his horses. His approach of adapting to the horse’s personality and abilities and then analysing how the rider can help the horse, is what makes him such a gifted trainer and rider. His education sessions are throughout EQUITANA with his masterclass on Friday morning and singing sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

Chris Burton (Eventing)

 

With three World Championships, two Olympic Games, a team bronze medal from Rio and two CCI4* wins to his credit, eventer Chris Burton is well respected in the world of equestrian. He was the first Australian to win the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials and his second win at the CCI4* in Adelaide was a last-minute catch ride. He’s known across the globe for his meticulous riding style and the UK- based Aussie is a popular figure in the sport both as a rider and trainer. Don’t miss his education and signing sessions throughout EQUITANA.

Stacy Westfall (Horsemanship)

 

American horsewoman Stacy Westfall is in a class of her own with her talents, having won the prestigious Road to the Horse colt-starting competition – the first female to have done so – and has also won other top titles, along with the All American Quarter Horse Congress Freestyle Reining competition riding both bridleless and bareback. It was those efforts that brought her to the ‘non-horsey’ public and saw her feature on the likes of the Ellen DeGeneres Show. She is now recognised the world over for her horsemanship and training talents.

Vicki Wilson – Jumping Training Feature

 

New Zealand’s Vicki Wilson is hugely accomplished across all facets of equestrian – from World Cup showjumping to horse starting, fixing, training, care and now in equine therapy. Her talent is lauded the world over, with her back-to-back wins in The Road to the Horse World Championship of Colt Starting in the United States catapulting her onto a global stage. She returns to EQUITANA with a jumping training feature, two sore horse education sessions and signing sessions across the four days.

Andrew Hoy – Off The Track Training Feature

 

Triple gold medallist Andrew Hoy needs little introduction. The UK-based eventer is the only Australian to have competed at seven Olympic Games and at EQUITANA Melbourne as a guest of Racing Victoria’s Off The Track Program. He’s constantly competing at the highest level in the world and has enjoyed success at the likes of the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials, won four World Championship medals and continues to inspire many.

Prepare to be amazed, excited and entranced as his amazing team wows you from the very first minute. The Brumby Muster takes horse play to a whole new level and will leave you wanting to don a cowboy hat and ride off into the sunset.

7. IRT ‘All-Star’ The Way Of The Horse

 

If you are attending EQUITANA all four days, then you cannot miss a second of TWOTH! This is the ultimate horsemanship challenge. The All Star version pitches four previous winners against each other to find the very best of the best. Add a good old trans Tasman clash and you’ve got the perfect storm. Australians Ken Faulkner (2012 champ), Bruce O’Dell (2014) and Adam Sutton (2010) will be doing their best to ensure the champ of champ title doesn’t head the way of EQUITANA Auckland 2017 winner Tui Teka. All are incredibly talented horsemen but have just four hours over the four days to transform their unhandled horses.

8. McDowells Australian Brumby Challenge

 

EQUITANA Melbourne has carefully selected 27 trainers who have been working with Australia’s wild horses over 150 days, taking them from wild to willing. The final – over the four days of EQUITANA – is their chance to showcase that amazing transformation. The freestyle class to music is one not to miss on Sunday and all Brumbies will auctioned at the end of the competition. Making it your opportunity to take home one of these amazing horses.

If it’s entertainment you are after then look no further. Starting with Thursday evening’s Full Flight Show followed by Pedro Torres dressage masterclass on Friday morning, the CDI-W dressage and top-flight showjumping on Friday evening, Saturday’s sell out Mane Event and Sunday’s horsemanship masterclass with Stacy Westfall . . . and that’s just a taster. There is shopping, a Kids’ Zone, educators and more.

10. Elite Sport Horse Auction

 

The Elite Sport Horse Auction is setting new heights for the Australian sport horse market. This is a first for Australia in this market space but well utilised in Europe where $1 million-plus horses change hands. EQUITANA Melbourne have introduced this in the hope of making it a regular fixture at the event. With 30-plus potential buyers registered and 16 extremely well bred horses going under the Inglis hammer, it will be quite a Saturday afternoon in the Grand Pavilion, with some big expectations.
